Charles Sims

Charles Sims was born in Roxton, TX on February 13,1955 to the late Johnny Sims and Minnie Mae Dawson. Charles attended school in Roxton, Texas and went on to enlist in the United Stated Army, serving his country with honor and courage with an honorable discharge in 1973. Charles accepted Christ at an early age.

Following his military service, he met the love of his life, Nora Sims, and it was clear their bond was something special. From that union came five sons: Michael Lamb, Aundre Sims, Charles Sims Jr, Steven Sims, and DeShawn Sims, each of whom Charles cherished deeply. He was a devoted father who led with both discipline and compassion. Family was everything to him, and he poured his heart into his sons and the generations of grandchildren that followed.

Charles was a proud, hardworking man who stood tall in the face of adversity, carrying forward the legacy of his ancestors with grace, dignity, and quiet strength. He believed in God, equality, and the power of faith and family.

He had a joyful, quiet spirit and a love for life that was contagious. Some of his favorite pleasures included playing chess and dancing– whether it was family gatherings or in his garage, he never missed a chance to move to the music. His smile would light up a room, and his dance moves were legendary among those who knew him best.

On Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, Charles departed this life. He is preceded in death by both parents Johnny and Minnie Sims, two brothers John Henry Sims and James Elbert Sims, and five sisters Rosie Merrell Franklin, Dorothy Nell Sims, Minnie Pearl Jackson, and Rosie Mae McCuin. He is preceded in life by his devoted wife, Nora Sims, siblings Odis and Janice Sims, his loving children and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.

A celebration of life for Charles will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025 from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be at 5:00 PM.
