Maria Magdalena Silvas, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, at the age of 57. She was the second eldest of five children, born on September 21, 1968, to Salome G. Garcia in Carrizo Springs, Texas, and raised in Crystal City, Texas.
In Crystal City, Maria became well known for her famous candy apples and her generous spirit. She attended Crystal City High School before relocating to Garland, Texas in 1996, where she would continue building her life and community.
Maria had a deep passion for helping others, especially when it came to legal matters. Though not formally trained, she became a trusted and respected source of guidance in her community, she functioned as an informal legal advocate to many. She was a hardworking woman who showed up for people when they needed her most.
In 1996, Maria moved to Garland, where she met Bruno Rendon and formed a meaningful friendship. Life took them on separate paths for a time, during which Maria met Gary Jackson and became the proud mother of four children. Years later, Maria and Bruno reunited, and after 15 years, they made their bond official, spending the rest of their lives together.
Maria was loved by many, and she was, without question, a strong woman! Strong-willed, opinionated, and resilient. She wasn’t always outwardly affectionate, but she loved deeply and fiercely. Maria expressed her love through her actions, her loyalty, and her unwavering presence. Once she called you a friend, you became family. And if you knew her, you understood that her love was something you experienced more than something she said.
A woman of faith, Maria was a devoted prayer warrior who found joy in spending time with her granddaughter, Ava, and in cooking for those she loved, especially making her cherished tamales.
She is survived by her sons, Andrew, Justin, and Gary; her daughter, Garilyn; and her beloved granddaughter, Ava. She also leaves behind her siblings: Jesse(Ricky) Hernandez; Yesenia (Genaro) Ordaz, along with Geno and Geffrey; Miguel Garcia Jr., along with Callista and Miguel III; and Allaynah Garcia.
Maria was preceded in death by her grandmother and grandfather Conception P and Antonio Gonzalez; mother, Salome G. Garcia; her sister, Janney M. Garcia; and her partner, Bruno Rendon.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her strength, her impact, and her love will live on in every life she touched.
