With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Rickey Dean Gibson, a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. He was born on September 26, 1958, in Kansas City, Kansas.
Rickey proudly served in the United States Air Force stationed in Germany as an F-14 mechanic. He was a skilled boxer and was tapped to represent the USAF in the Olympics, but had to decline due to breaking his collar bone. Rick was an incredibly talented musician, self taught on the guitar. He later built a successful career as a telecommunications engineer and loved working with computers. He was passionate about photography, music, and cooking, and traveling- the simple joys of life—good meals, coffee, and time with loved ones. Known for his kind heart and steady presence, Rickey touched many lives with his warmth, wittiness and wisdom.
Rick was preceded by his parents Gail and Chuck Ellis and brother Gary Ellis. He is survived by his loving wife, Edelma; his children, Reinaldo, Maggy, Alexsandra, and Yazmin; His previous spouse Linda, their children Paul and Jewel, grandchildren Kalynne, Elizabeth, Jake and Olivia, and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Steve and Jeffrey Ellis who he was very close with and sisters-in-love Sherri and Gloria and two sisters Terri and Carlene. He also leaves behind his mother in-law Lucrecia Padilla, sister in-law Carmen,Irma Lopez, Ana Romero and brother in-law Juan Romero as well of all their children. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces in nephews; Matthew and Eric Ellis, Josh Jennings, Angela Cantrell, Sasha Ellis-Grailer, Vanessa Williams, Jeff (L.)Ellis, and Jessica Seldomridge, Hailey Ellis, and all of their children as well as his close cousin Ron Gibson.
Rickey will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
